Swollen Eye

On Sunday morning, Julia's right eye seemed a little swollen.

We continued with our day. We went to the local art show and Julia got a face painting.

During the day I kept a close eye on her eye. When I saw it was getting worse, I took her to the ER.

Luckily I did. Found out it is VERY serious. She had a skin infection by her eye (not an eye infection). If the swelling got much worse, it could effect her vision. There is a thin membrane behind the eye, that all information passes through. The pressure from the swelling could rupture it. She started antibiotics immediately. However, by the next morning, her eye swelled shut. The good news is that it got better and better from there. We believe her vision was not hurt.

Virginia

Julia and I went to Virginia with Scott on a business trip. We were 15 minutes from Washington DC, so we visited the National Zoo. We got to see their pandas, but the zoo was poorly designed and very disappointing, we don't plan to ever go back. We also went to the National Museum of Natural History. It is an amazing museum, with great displays, including an indoor butterfly dome and the hope diamond.

We did experience our first earthquake while in Virginia, it was a magnitude of 5.8. Julia did not notice it, but momma clearly felt it and was spooked for the rest of the day. Then, there was hurricane Irene moving up the coast. So Julia and momma changed their flight to head home early. Papa, who stayed, said the storm was was not too bad, mostly just a lot of rain.

The little traveler. Here she is waiting for the airport tram at DIA. By age one she had been on more then 20 flights. By age two, she had been to 7 countries. Where will she go next?!

Here she is in the hotel room, just before the earthquake.

Best seat in the house. Strolling through the National Zoo.

Watching the gorillas, including to baby gorillas. Too cute!

There's the Panda!

Sugar from papa.

During an evening walk, Julia decided to plant a tree. She found a leaf on the ground and gently planted it, so it could stand up and grow.

Our fort at the hotel.

Waiting for Esther

As soon as Julia woke up, she stood at the door for Esther to arrive for their play date. Sadly, the play date was about 2 hours away...

Julia and scissors

Julia gave herself a haircut today.

The hair in my hand is less then half of the amount she cut off!

I knew this was likely to happen one day, so I found the humor in it and reminder her that we only use scissors on paper.

Pedicure, by momma

Purple, with a layer of sparkles.

Parker Country Festival 2011

I couldn't get Julia to smile, but the horse gave me a big grin!

Julia got a special treat eat: a corn dog (which she loves).

She rode the spinning rides with Auntie Lauren. She rode the others with momma. However, some rides she was big enough to ride all on her own!

Momma and Julia riding the train (which broke down).

Julia looking the other way.

Her favorite ride: a giant air filled slide. $1 a ride. I think we spent $20!

Owies

Julia has two bad owies right now. It all started with a blister on her right heel, which got scraped off on the concrete, leaving a big, deep, bloody owie.

I was so worried, I took her to the doctor. He assured me that everything is okay. Shew!

The next day, Julia was running on the wood floors and fell on her chin. This what that looks like.

Now it's about healed.

I think I will just wrap her in bubble wrap and keep her safe forever.
